I suppose one could refer to me as a "down low sista" although I don't see any immediate need to proclaim my sexuality to the world. I do fear judgement from family and friends if I was to be open about my sexual orientation and in truth my sexuality is a private matter. As long as I protect myself and don't endanger my partners I see no need for every one I come across to know that I am attracted mentally and physically to both men and women.

This contribution to our community, gives me pause but yet triggers the need to continue having dialog that would expose the root cause of such secrecy. In no way do I believe that we are oblivious to the reality that sistahs aren't being honest about their experiences within relationships & their observations of "what a black relationship looks like" while being reared. However, I do believe that we aren't taking the time to give attention & providing a sacred space for sistahs to feel comfortable exposing their heart; which is allowing for the spirit to speak freely without pressure.

Ms. Tracy, this is a great article; as you've chosen to give a "real" touch by way of your examples of conversations sistahs have amongst their peers, along with your choice of terms that would best describe the sentiment within the experience!

Much Respect!
